About the Show

This November, the most talked about show of the 2016 SummerWorks Performance Festival, Daughter, premieres at the Franco Boni Theatre.  Daughter is a true thought disrupter that will leave you charged and ready to talk.  This provocative one-man show about toxic masculinity is written by Canada’s Bouffon-King Adam Lazarus and co-created with Anne Marie Kerr, Melissa D’Agostino and Jiv Parasram. Both hysterical and disturbing, Daughter plays in the liminal space between autobiography and fiction. It is a darkly satirical piece about a father stuck in a moment of confusion – raised in patriarchy, confronting his new identity as a patriarch/father, and not knowing how to operate in the world. Can he change?
Daughter interrogates questions of culpability and complicity in our society. It examines the the subtle and not so subtle ways we condone and encourage misogyny, in the name of: that’s just how dudes are.
Welcome to Daughter: a play that exposes the hypocrisies and difficulties of the human experience.
★★★★★ “Adam Lazarus’s one man show provides an enormous psychological impact. Daughter leaves an audience challenged and deeply unnerved from exposure to the ugliness of misogyny.”
★★★★ Critics’ Pick. Outstanding Production, New Play, Direction and Performance.
“Its themes are more urgent than ever…this is a strong, disturbing play, one you’ll need to discuss with friends afterwards.”
-NOW Magazine
A+. Award for Outstanding Solo Performance.
“Must-see. Daughter is the scariest show I’ve seen all year, as dangerously engaging (and genuinely funny) as it is brutally visceral.”
